….after McArthur Park.
Give Richard Harris a break. He sold that song like he really meant it.
Musically, I think the piece is fine, but the spoken word part in the end sounds like a parody of someone trying to be pretentious.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
I don't know how you can speak that without cracking up. I am on the verge of being a Senior Citizen, and I really like qualifying for free drinks at Wendy's.

There’s a great clip of Richard Harris, WASTED on Merv Griffin, calling the song “Sheer Poetry!! Bigger than the both of us!!” Priceless.

Now imagine those lyrics in Bob Dylan's voice and the same doggerel rhyme will communicate itself very differently:
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Hear? All it needs now is “And the times, they are a-changin'!”
