Russian economy meltdown as inflation soars with prices 'up 65%' and Ruble plummets

The Russian media is in a state of panic as inflation soars and the Ruble slumps, leaving many to struggle.

Moscow's print news outlets, heavily controlled by Russian President Vladimir Putin, were uncharacteristically negative in their coverage as they raised concerns about the economic well-being of ordinary Russians.

As reported by the BBC's Russia Editor, Steve Rosenberg, the front page of Russian newspaper Nezavismaya Gazeta said: "Some products have gone up in price this year by tens of percent."

The report highlighted that butter is 6.6% more expensive than it was in September, and 30% more expensive than this time last year.

Meanwhile, the price of potatoes soared 65% when compared with last year.

The newspaper cited a survey in which half of Russians lamented the noticeable rise in dairy product prices. A sociologist placed the blame on the Russian Central Bank, not President Putin.

They said: "While failing to achieve its goals of lowering inflation, the Russian Central Bank is at the same time undermining people's financial standing, making housing and consumer goods less affordable.

"All of this has a negative effect on Russians' social well-being."

Another newspaper, Moskovsky Komsomolets, highlights that the price of tangerines, a Christmas favourite in Russia, has risen from 60-90 Roubles a kilo a year ago to between 100-150 Roubles today.

The paper added that the price of tangerines may rise as much as 50%.

This guy is a curated ‘bot.

Yeah, that's why I mock him.

Some of the pro-Ukraine posters think he's a real poster.

That's crazy.

No real poster would constantly utter the same few tired lines (with occasional curated messages posted).

The Putin supporters will never admit that Russia is a bigger mess after Putin’s invasion.

Inflation is common in War. Just look at ours during various wars- the average is a 45 percent rise. Russia is paying a small price to defeat the collective West.

That said, the EU citizens have suffered far worse- energy bills absurd, Germany’s manufacturing emasculated,( VW plants shuttering down, a first), and the EU Nazis proposing yet more taxation on the already fleeced populace.

….and Vlad says Checkmate again, and again.

I can dispute the posting technique.

Free Republic, classically, has been a place of pretty good thinkers who offer decent analysis.

marxistmaximus offers NO analysis, but simply posts the same three or four canned responses. "Tell Putin to (whatever)" or "What is (whatever) doink?" or "(whatever) stronk like bull."

I don't object to the articles. I object to the mindless one-line vapid responses. They are unworthy of this forum.

Why "admit" to total nonsense? Russians support the war by a broad margin, so it's not like they are suffering despite what you tell yourself.

There is going to be a reckoning at some point when folks like you realize that the same people who lie to you nonstop about US politics and culture were lying nonstop about the war in Ukraine. How it can be that you can't figure this out for yourself I don't really understand. Russia will win its objective, Europe has exposed itself as weak and irrelevant, and the Washington elite clown show that couldn't beat the Taliban will spend the next ten years making excuses for their serial incompetence and graft.

The Russian economy booming, you dope. That's the reason for the inflation.

This after idiots like you believed sanctions would leave the Russian economy in "tatters".

But, I don't give a damn what it takes make fools like care about cleaning up the corruption within Deep State and our government.

There is literally nothing to horrific that could happen to you that I wouldn't celebrate happening to you.

If you read the article, 50% of the Russian population are angry about the rampant inflation. With an average monthly pension of less than $250 a month, it’s a big problem for Putin.

25% interest rates in Russia isn’t winning. It’s Jimmy Carter.

The Putinists sound exactly like the Bidenists when making their silly excuses for Russia’s runaway inflation.
