Matt Gaetz, the former Florida representative and President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for attorney general, announced Thursday that he is withdrawing as Trump's pick for the top prosecutor.
Who is in consideration now for the top spot?

I’d be game for John Cornyn being nominated.
He would be easily confirmed. Trump could then immediately fire him, and we’d be free of him.

If not and Trump still wants Gaetz on board, Trump could name him to the position.Gaets bowed out, that's the topic of this thread.
Smart choice by Gaetz, he was toxic and there is no use in wasting political capital in forcing his confirmation.

As an aside, Gaetz may return to the House. A few minutes ago, Neil Cavuto was discussing this issue with Jason Smith, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Smith said that, technically, there’s no reason Gaetz can’t return.
