Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump, came out hard against Trump’s plan to used the military as part of his mass deportation effort on Tuesday night.
“I think what I would do if I were in charge of the immigration situation would be to first to go after those who have committed crimes. You know, the big news right before the election was that there were 15,000 people in our country who have committed murder, there are about 13,000 that have committed sex crimes, violent sex crimes. That’s 28,000 people. Why don’t we start with that 28,000?” began Paul. “I’m not in favor of sending the army in uniforms into our cities to collect people. I think it’s a terrible image. And that’s not what we use our military for, we never have. And it’s actually been illegal for over 100 years to bring the army into our cities. Army and our military are trained to shoot the enemy. They’re not trained to get a warrant to do what they’re doing. The police have a difficult job, but the people removing people from our country need to be a police enforcement domestic agency, not the military. So while I’m all for ‘Remain in Mexico,’ I will not support an emergency to put the army into our cities. I think that’s a huge mistake.”

How did Eisenhower do it, Rand?
Second thread on this subject, how many more?
Homan said the Army would only be used for transportation. Can’t Rand read?
Yes,Ike had “Operation Wetback”. But I’ve never seen any details as to how many wetbacks were sent home or exactly how the departures were made to happen.
He’s wrong on this. The military was used to assist bringing them here, with processing, feeding, tents, etc.
That is what they will be doing in the outprocessing.
Trump has never suggested sending the Army out to make the arrests.
This is a strawman and Rand fell for it.
It is not unconstitutional at all.
I'm sure they will.
The Army can DETAIN. The ARREST would be made by ICE or BCE.
This is why I don’t like the idea of Rand Paul in charge of anything. He gums up the works.
I saw him interviewed about this. I think he doesn’t like the optics of the US military in city streets picking up people.
Nobody does. But does he like the optics of illegals raping and killing American kids?
What does the Constitution say? If it’s not prohibited, then just do it already.
I think Trump has the power to do it the precedent was set in the 50s wasn’t it?
Exactly. Just like they did when they surrendered to the Border Patrol on the way into the country.
Sit down Rand and shut-up!
We need to deal with the problem NOW!
Not gradually or the problem will not be resolved.
The Democrats plan to use these illegal aliens as an electoral time bomb!
Shut-up and sit down and let the adults handle the problem!
In this case the formal arrest must be made by an ICE or BCE agent ( or a deputized agent of same ).
The military will not be used for enforcement, only for transportation, therefore it is perfectly constitutional.
Stopping an invasion doesn’t sound like law enforcement activity to me.
