Wannabe Churchills; the prime difference is that there is no clear threat to the UK; its Army is smaller than at any point since the Napoleonic Wars; the Labor Government is talking about mothballing many of its few remaining surface ships; and when NATO bombed the Houthis in the Red Sea, British pilots had to take off from carriers in the Irish Sea bc the carriers didn’t have the manpower to move them to the Red Sea. Big talk, backed by nothing, but very dangerous talk for the world and for us.

Bingo. We have the same sort on the other side of the pond.
Bill Clinton once said that his biggest regret was that he was not a war president. All the great presidents (Washington, Lincoln, FDR) ran large wars, and Clinton regretted that he wasn’t able to join that group.
Bill is now in retirement. But there are many with that same mindset still at the levers of power. Generals want promotions. Defense and State Department officials want to do something really significant, etc.
Then there is the money angle, too.
