American political thriller film about a military-political cabal's planned takeover of the United States government in reaction to the president's negotiation of a disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union. The film, starring Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Fredric March, and Ava Gardner, was directed by John Frankenheimer from a screenplay written by Rod Serling and based on the novel of the same name by Fletcher Knebel and Charles W. Bailey II, published in September 1962.

We can’t forget Frederick March in “The Best Years Of Our Lives”.
March was also great in The Best Years of Our Lives.

You beat me to it. It’s one of my favorite movies.
Actually, it did happen or almost did in the early 1950s. There was a revolt of the admirals , a chief of naval operations lost his job over that.
11th. Airborne Division. Pacific Theater.
Maybe call it 3 Days in November (1963) with Curtis LeMay in the lead role along with the Dulles brothers?
I watched, “Seven Days In May,” years ago while in the military. It has been on TV several times but I did not watch any reruns. Lancaster and Rock Hudson made it OK to be perverted homosexuals in Hollywood and on top of that Lancaster was a left-wing, bleeding-heart liberal.
Douglas was also a left-wing, bleeding-heart liberal.
I cannot separate the actors from their perversions and political idiocies so that I continually pass on their reruns.
Thanks for posting.
I preferred the Manchurian candidate.
Hasn’t happened yet? I could debate that point with you. You’ve seen two US governments overthrown, in 63 and ‘20. “Left wing”? Not in the movie or in ‘63 and ‘20. The MIC in all three cases.
Forget the Iranian bravado. That is part of Trump’s coming deal. Trump is a peacemaker. Jordon Lyman has nothing on Trump in that regard.
I’m not on the Chicom General Staff. So no, Milley hasn’t reached out to me. When that traitorous POS lawyers up, will he be looking for military counsel or can he use a civilian attorney during his court martial?
Hollywood used to be great! Take any three year period before the 80s and you’ll probably find the same thing.

ECOMCON!!!
“Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster spent some time before filming touring around Washington, D.C. to get a feel for the place. They were escorted around by a young army officer, future 4 star general and Secretary of State Alexander Haig.”

This was on TCN yesterday. Two thoughts:
— A clique of ambitious career generals plot to overthrow a president who they think must be a Russian asset. Hmmm..
— Even before seeing the credits, I suspected that Rod Serling had a hand in writing this. As with the Twilight Zone, the action would grind to a halt so a character could deliver a portentous speech.
It took skeptics 10 years after to make that film. Only in 1975 was the Zapruder film shown to the American public for the first time. That triggered Congressional investigations and speculation to this very day.
We are coming up on the 61st anniversary of JFK’s murder and STILL documents (that weren’t destroyed already) have not been released.
Simple question: What is left to hide?
