TNR used to be the flagship of mainstream American liberalism. It’s history goes back to World War One and it’s an interesting read. I have no idea what it’s like today.
Commentary Magazine was the home of neoconservatism back in the Reagan years. More Left than The New Republic but there was plenty of crossover.
And while it’s hard to imagine now, National Review was once a conservative magazine.
One of my favorite old Woody Allen jokes:
“Dissent has merged with Commentary.
The new magazine is called.....
Dysentery.”
