The vote total of Republicans nationwide only went up by 2.5mm, a small difference when you factor in pop growth.

Trump won by 3mm votes nationwide only because Democrat votes went down 7.5mm, resulting in a lot of lost states. And obviously R's can lose the popular by a little and win, which makes this even more stark.

Dem votes went up by 18mm in 2020 from 2016! That's the root of the real story. 18mm up is statistically impossible.
