It’s one thing to be for DEI, it’s another to allow unvetted comedians the likes of which stood up at Madison Square Garden and called Puerto Rico an island of garbage one week before the Election. That kind of tone deafness and unforced error, in THAT specific context needs to stop. FOR STARTERS. I’m not talking about censorship or political correctness, just basic awareness that it’s not just “white people” in the room you’re trying to win the narrative with!
Give me a break.....
The unvetted comedian at Madison Square Garden may have cost us the senate seats in the states of Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin - all close races.
Two things about that:
1) A comedian who specializes in insulting people was a poor choice to speak at a political rally. I presume he will not speak at the inauguration.
2) Oversensitivity to identity politics "errors" is a mistake. Trump carried Miami-Dade (of all places) and did very well with US citizen voters of Hispanic ancestry, INCLUDING Puerto Rican men.
Yes it was a stupid "joke" but it doesn't seem to have cost Trump anything, and the lesson is treating men as fragile flowers who are supposed to faint at the slightest mention of their ethnicity or homelands is giving identity politics more punch than it deserves.
Interesting note about that Puerto Rican “garbage” slur.
There is a county in Florida with the highest percentage of Puerto Ricans on the mainland (don’t recall the name).
It was traditionally easily carried by Democrats.
President Trump won it this time.
Once you understand why this happened you can begin to understand how electoral politics really works.
(The mass media is totally clueless btw.)
Hint: Politics is downstream from culture. The leftist crazies have values in direct conflict with Puerto Ricans.
The campaign vetted the speakers material beforehand.
That comedian added the stuff about Puerto Rico, blacks, and Hispanics to his spiel.
