Founded in 1965? I thought “Rock you like a hurricane” was their debut in the 1980s.

They once did a rock version of Rentaro Taki's Kojo no Tsuki (Moon over the Ruined Castle), basically wringing out all the sabishii from the song. I use it in my music course as an example of a cover that wrecks the original, as when Lick the Tins covered Elvis' "I can't help falling in love with you" as a metal polka.

We hosted a foreign exchange student from Germany in the early 1980s. He introduced me to The Scorpions, Golden Earring, and several other rocking bands (Ralph, wherever you are, thanks!). While I dislike Winds of Change as a song, it was the way the world was back then. I had a VHS tape of them touring in eastern bloc countries when the wall came down. It was amazing to see the thirst for freedom and music those kids had. They even showed how they would copy one tape to other tapes to spread western music in East Germany.
