Everyone should be pardoned. Everyone.
And further, all of their legal expenses should be reimbursed.
Those who were not convicted of violent crimes against persons or property should be paid additional restitution for lost earnings from the time they were arrested until the time they were released. All settlement payments should be exempt from Federal income taxes. A Board of Review must be established to examine each case and set appropriate restitution payments.
Those last bits will require new laws passed by Congress and signed by the President.
I am not a huge fan of police, although I am a staunch conservative. Police have been militarized or DEI'd into incompetence. They have their successes, but in general, they are reactive, not proactive, and at times overreactive. Qualified Immunity should not be considered automatic. I believe qualified Immunity should be given after a peer review and a hearing before a judge. I also think the Capitol police are archaic and an outdated necessity. DHS Force Protective Services can do their job and be managed by the DOJ with input from the Speaker. Congress should not have its own police force.
If you resisted arrest, fought with the Capitol Police, damaged or stole government property, you broke the law. They should NOT be treated or charged as insurrectionists. But should be prosecuted under existing federal law for assaulting a federal officer, damaging government property, or theft. That is the standard we want to apply to BLM and the current crop of antisemitic anarchists. You do not get it both ways. There is no doubt this was a political witch hunt. People prosecuted for all or some of the above should have their sentences commuted and be considered for a pardon after a case review. Everyone else should be pardoned and end this charade.
