As I suspected, it’s not sold in Indiana. I found a description and it says it’s from Panama. I have tried a 12 year Panama dark rum, and it was very, very good. I will definitely keep my eye out for that! It sounds right up my alley!
Several years ago, a friend of mine who was at his grandmother’s home suggested that we add some rum to our coffee to enhance its flavor. He pulled from the shelf a bottle of Bacardi, but the bottle didn’t look like the usual bottles. I read the label, which stated that it was bottled in Cuba. When I looked further, it turned out that it had been bottled in 1953. But it still tasted great.
My favorite is Club Havana, but I haven’t had any for some time. I had to smuggle it in from Canada or Mexico. Not to be confused with Havana Club.
Heresy! Gosling’s Black Seal nowhere to be found?
Dark n’Stormy for the win.
El Dorado rum is made in Guyana and is excellent.
Hat tip to G’Town.
Myers has been my drink for years. Recently added Appleton Estates for variety. Spent most of October in NM, AZ, UT, and WY on my Harley. I have a travel bottle on board. Travelling out in the hinterlands I have been reduced to drinking terrible rums once the Meyers runs out.
Anyone besides me thinking of the movie “Rum Diary”? The acid trip scene/lobster chat is esp memorable; “...I wonder what it is you might think about our different worlds. He looked at me kinda sideways and said, “Human beings are the only creatures on Earth who claim a god, and the only living thing that behaves like it hasn’t got one. Does the world belong to no one but you?”
Dammit... I’ve been drinking rum now for 4 hours and it’s your fault.

Seasonal reminder: if you want to whip up a batch of homemade eggnog using Alton Brown’s recipe, you still have enough time before Christmas. I like to divide the alcohol content in three - bourbon, brandy and dark rum. Of the three, however, I believe the rum is the key - the deep molasses and brown sugar notes really make it something special. I used Barbancourt dark rum last year, going to repeat it this year.
😂
Goslings Black Seal is a nice quality rum, and I like it for certain occasions, but it’s not one I can drink all the time. Not certain what it is. I should try it again.
Agree
Is this the recipe you use?

In a mixed drink, Black Seal is all a rum should be. It is smooth and flavorful. Gosling’s Old Rum is expensive, but stands up favorably to any distinguished world-class spirit. It is exceptional, complex and worth every penny.
Yep, that’s the one. I divide it into smaller (8 oz, I think) Bell jars - makes it easier to store in the fridge.
I will try it again. I think I still have a bottle in the cabinet.
