HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A driver was rescued Saturday night after their vehicle ran off the road of Interstate 40 in Haywood County.
According to the Junaluska Community Volunteer Fire Department, shortly after 8 p.m., officials received a notification that a vehicle had traveled off Interstate 40 Eastbound near mile marker 3.5 and then down an embankment.
Several North Carolina emergency agencies responded to the scene.
Crews found the vehicle lying on its passenger side almost 100 feet from the roadway according to firefighters.
The driver was found inside the car.
Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol were able to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
Investigators believe that the car went off the roadway when the driver attempted to drive around a blockade and a large hole in the interstate. “Road closed” signage and concrete barriers have been placed in areas of the roadway due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Officials did not share if the driver suffered from any injuries or their condition at this time.
The crash remains under investigation by the NC Highway Patrol.
He was probably drunk and that’s what saved him since his muscles were loose.

“””A driver was rescued Saturday night after their vehicle”””
More pronoun BS from the media.
My buddy the NH state cop told me about a guy who crashed his motorcycle doing over 100 mph.
He was not wearing a helmet. His girlfriend on the back was. She ended up with some road rash. He had a couple broken bones but really not bad. He was drunk. Witness said he rolled several times.

Stopped reading right “their”.
“More pronoun BS from the media.”
Maybe the writer didn’t know. Police gave no details.
The driver? One? They?
There’s NO info on anything about this person, no sex, immigration status, demographic.
What are they hiding?
The Fun Games with Pronouns always makes me believe that there was more than one person involved.
I don’t know, the one we saw the other day might beat it. Guy in a U-haul truck stopped at a very low underpass with all kinds of warning signs long before you get to it. The underpass has a huge heavy metal beam across the entrance so that over height trucks will it before they hit the bridge because it has happened so many times. He stopped just short of hitting the beam.
Traffic backed up. So someone got out and told the guy he is not going to get under that and he has to turn around. The guy yelled back “My GPS said I can go this way!” and proceeded to try anyhow wedging the truck under the rail and then he could not get it back out. It was stuck there for two hours before a tow truck winched him out.
We live in a world where tech tells us our own eyes and common sense are not smarter than the tech. And some are stupid enough to completely trust it.
GPS has made worse errors.

They would have died out there if a rancher had not gone out to check water tanks for his cattle. They were already out of food & had no blankets, etc.
NOT much cell service out there, either.
I’ve seen several wrecks where the vehicles were disintegrated and the people walked away from it. Yes I think being drunk was a common denominator.
Oh I had one where the motorcyclist had to be hauled away by ambulance because he was really banged up but his dog named Bear survived. I took Bear over to the brother’s house and Bear got all excited when I pulled down the street. Never found out where Bear was riding on the bike.
“A Driver”
Oh I know, like you I lived in the remote desert where that happens all the time. We lost a quite a few out in our area.
I remember a case about 22 years ago in Oklahoma in which a barge rammed a bridge causing the bridge on I-40 to collapse. Several cars and trucks ran off into the water killing 14.

I should mention I would have been on that bridge at that time except I cut north on I-44 and missed it.
Woman driver?
I suspect heavy intoxication is to blame. A couple of years ago there was a lady that blew through all the road closer signs for an overpass that was being replaced over an interstate. There was no overpass at the time of the accident. Fortunately, nobody was killed but there were some very serious injuries. If my memory serves me correctly she got some serious jail time..
