Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is a 1964 satirical film that comments on the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War. The film is about a US Air Force general who goes insane and orders his bombers to destroy the Soviet Union. The film's themes include the possibility of nuclear war, the relationship between the US and the Soviet Union, and the doctrine of mutually assured destruction.

All that being said, the movie is still terrifying.
Look at Biden’s War Room today. I’ll take the more level headed members of President Muffley’s in a heartbeat. Listen to the talking head brass like Jack Keane. Keane’s views are more certifiably insane regarding the Russians than Buck Turgidson’s were.
Hard to believe now that they chose Rex Harrison from my fair lady over sellers for his triple roll in this. Harrison was excellent, but nobody remembers my fair lady anymore
EOP... POE... “purity of essence”
Yes it is, that was the genius of the movie, though full of satire it was also full of truth.
At this point I am more concerned about a Russian version of Ripper, but the inept leadership we have is serious.
Imagine cackles starring down putin and the mullahs while laughing hysterically.
General Jack D. Ripper: Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face.
General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children’s ice cream.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: [very nervous] Lord, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don’t, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.
Though Lehrer was “a hero of the anti-nuclear, civil rights left” and covered its political concerns in many of his songs and, even though he shared the New Left’s opposition to the Vietnam War, and advocated for civil rights, he disliked the aesthetics of the counterculture of the 1960s and stopped performing as the movement gained momentum.
In October 2020, Lehrer transferred the music and lyrics for all songs he had ever written into the public domain.[66][67] In November 2022, he formally relinquished the copyright and performing/recording rights on his songs, making all music and lyrics composed by him free for anyone to use, and established a website from which all of his recordings and printable copies of all of his songs could be downloaded.
The only people demanding Americans live on their knees is Washington DC. No external enemy is pushing us. All of our problems come from us pushing other countries, and allowing China unlimited access to American government, academia and business.
The Dr Strangelove character was loosely based on Herman Kahn.
Kahn was a physicist who worked for RAND and the Hudson Institute. He had written “On Nuclear War” a book about how to increase survivabilty in the event a nuclear war.

Totally strange. SO many years since I’ve seen that movie.
Fluoridation.
Invading our precious bodily fluids.
Even the very name of it. “Strangelove” when discussing our love for the bomb. Kubrick was a genius.
Is RFKjr really General Jack D. Ripper in disguise? RFK is concerned about flouridation and ‘purity of essence’..just sayin’ - I am joking.
One of the best movies ever :)
General Batguano was right about our Precious Bodily Fluids, though. LOL
I loved this movie when I was a kid. (I was kind of a wiseguy gal)
We’ve had Dr. Strangenuland lurking in the shadows for decades. What was Milley capable of when he was in open collaboration with the Chicoms during the coup?
Yup
Gather ‘round while I sing you of Wernher von Braun,
A man whose allegiance
Is ruled by expedience.
Call him a Nazi, he won’t even frown,
“Ha, Nazi, Schmazi, “ says Wernher von Braun.
Don’t say that he’s hypocritical,
Say rather that he’s apolitical.
“Once the rockets are up, who cares where they come down?
That’s not my department, “ says Wernher von Braun.
Some have harsh words for this man of renown,
But some think our attitude
Should be one of gratitude,
Like the widows and cripples in old London town,
Who owe their large pensions to Wernher von Braun.
You too may be a big hero,
Once you’ve learned to count backwards to zero.
“In German oder English I know how to count down,
Und I’m learning Chinese!” says Wernher von Braun.
