Having grown up in the shadow of the Great Lakes this really resonates with Me. I see the taconite ships go by 3 to 4 times a week. And I once met Gordon Lightfoot.

I wonder if the Mariner’s Church in Detroit will ring the bell 30 times again, or if that 30th chime for Gord was a one-time deal?

Me too, having lived in northern MI for much of my life going back to the 70’s can’t really think of anything more frightening than standing on the shoreline as darkness sets in and seeing the curve of the Earth, the ferocious wind blowing snow in your face with waves 20’ high...if this doesn’t scare the hell out of you nothing will. Well, driving over the Mackinaw Bridge in the middle of the night and feel the bridge moving from the high winds when the semis are grounded is up there too LOL.

Me too as a Clevelander. Also as a former Alaska Crab fisherman and Navy sailor, it hits with me too. Seen some storms in the Bering Sea at 20 years old where I was pretty sure that it would be my final night.
