Bad Mainstream Media Memes

Memes are a bad thing for Journalists. It is to take up a storyline tact that will color all future articles. But what's worse is that they tend to Morph and take a journalist away from reality and objectivity.

Take the Meme, Orangeman Bad. Built on the idea that Trump was a Racist because of his statements in Charlottesville Virginia. After Charlottesville, anything that Trump said or did would be flagged as bad and him to be vilified.

However, the Meme soon Morphed:

Orange man bad. Republicans Bad.

Since Trump was a racist, so the Republicans must be because he is their head. so now, TRUMP and REPUBLICANS WOULD BE VILEFIED.

But the Meme soon Morphed Again:

Orange man bad. Republicans Bad. Republican Voters Bad.

And Again:

Orange man bad. Republicans Bad. Republican Voters Bad. Democrats Good and Pure.

And Again:

Orange man bad. Republicans Bad. Republican Voters Bad. Democrats Good and Pure. JOURNALISTS PURE AND GOOD.

And Again:

Orange man bad. Republicans Bad. Republican Voters Bad. Democrats Good and Pure. JOURNALISTS PURE AND GOOD. JOURALISTS CAN TELL THE PUBLIC HOW TO THINK.

But along the way, they LOST THE AMERICAN PUBLC. And they silently lost Even More with each Morph. Why?

Because Americans increasingly didn't want to go where the journalists were going.

When Journalists started telling African-Americans how to think was the last straw for many.

But how to stop a Morphing Meme? How do we get back to Objectivity and Fairness?

Unravel them and examine them? Periodically ask, what Memes are we following and if Meme(s) are identified ask: How did we get here and where is this taking us?

Flip the Script - If the roles were reversed would we still report this way?

The Memes above are just an example, probably not far from the truth. But it is obvious the Mainstream Press needs some serious soul searching.

A good place to start in this case is Charlottesville and to realize Trump played the Mainstream Memes like a fiddle in front of the public for years by forcing them into view.

And I'd say the time to start Soul Searching is sooner than later since Memes can be quite ultimately self-destructing.
