Kudos to all the Vietnam vets for serving their country, but Liz Cheney(Kamala supporter) is a war monger.

Rush Limbaugh used that one as one of his update themes, and actually had a talk with Barry McGuire, who was not a liberal.

Song written by P.F. Sloan.
This line is sadly still true from 1965 to 2024:

And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin’
But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
How you don’t believe
We’re on the eve of destruction

Yes, thank you for your service to all Vietnam vets.

You did the hard work and took the risks for our country while others sang songs.

If Sloan is only off by 60 years that’s pretty darn good. Being “on the eve” has been claimed the entire way since it was written. Perhaps we don’t perceive/measure time like You Know Who.

“Being “on the eve” has been claimed the entire way since it was written.”

“It” being the Bible, not the song.

If you look it up, you’ll find that Sloan was a prolific writer. He played the guitar intro on “California Dreaming” that set the table for the song.

If that happens, they should probably use the old title, Secretary of War.

1965?

Best song was Downtown by Petula Clark.

Next was Wooly Bully by Sam the Sham and the Pharaos.

Barry has changed some of the lyrics - that may be the part he changed - I’ll look it up

Barry has changed some of the lyrics

The reference to "four days in space" is probably a reference to the four-day Gemini Four manned spaceflight of June 1965.

This forgotten answer to "Eve of Destruction" was a chart hit in the fall of 1965.

This one starts off great--almost a description of the world of 2024. However, the ending is somewhat disappointing.

In the closing days of 1964, You've Lost That Loving Feeling by the Righteous Brothers rose to the top of the charts--at least here in Southern California--and stayed there. But in January, Petula Clark's "Downtown" quickly rose to #2. For several weeks, the two tunes battled it out for the top spot--and I was rooting for the Righteous Bros.' opus. They finally prevailed when "Downtown" began to sink. "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" stayed on top until "My Girl" by the Temptations finally knocked it off in the first week of March.
