My father-in-law died at 53 of Colon cancer. He ate little meat (wasn’t against it, family was not well to do). Rode his bicycle everywhere, was a healthy weight, and had quit smoking years ago. But he was Dutch, and both sides of his family were riddled with it. The genes appear to be the primary factor.

I’ve been advised that the key to longevity is to choose ones parents carefully.
