It depends on if the father knowingly took the child to a rally, or happened to accidentally encounter a bunch of leftist nutcases protesting something he didn't expect.
If he chose to go there and take the child, he was wrong. I agree with you.
If he was out doing something different and accidentally encountered them, that's different, but still, once he realized what was going on, he should have gotten the child to safety.
