I was going to say, bet he was shooting steel from too close. Stupid.
He’ll shot his eye out!!!!
I doubt it.
Ok, I’ll say it. He’s a JAG, not a real Marine. Leave the rifles to actual tip of the spear men.
The greatest guntuber there ever was
Rifle at 5 yards? What is the point?
I did get hit with a piece of spall while I was shooting a pistol at steel at five yards. Jacketed rounds, not a good idea. A little piece of jacket, maybe half and inch long and a few kilometers wide stuck in my cheek, just under my eye (I was wearing glassed).
A little blood trickled down my face and the thought that hit me immediately was: “Did I just shoot myself? That’s stupid!”
The reporter, Ryan Gamboa, is lucky it wasn't worse.
No kidding, it is definitely close range for an AR15. Fifteen yards isn’t even a good starting range for zeroing the thing.
The guy is floating up there in the moronosphere.

“shooting non-angled steel targets at five yards with scoped rifles.”
A thousand facepalms isn’t enough.
Millimeters, thanks spell check.
I shot an old bowling ball once at about 10 yards with a .38 Special. The bullet (158-grain round-nosed lead) ricocheted almost straight back and I heard it buzz just over my head. OK, lesson learned, no more of that.
I shot at a target backed up with some plywood that was about 30 feet away as a kid. One of the pellets came back at me and grazed my head. Lesson learned.

Did I read that right? Five yards?
Yeah, if you see some of the photos, it's about 5 yards.
...with an AR-15 among other rifles.
If they had invited ‘Tampon Tim’ Walz, he could have stuck one of his tampons in the reporter’s wound... and the other tampon in the wound on his arm as well.
I’m certainly no expert, and even I know that that’s a sure bet for ricochet.
Dangerous!
