I’ll postulate that Civilization moves ahead in “punctuated-equilibrium” because of genius.

Can’t wait to see the pearl clutching from the boomers with their “But the media told us that IQ is not genetic and the media would never lie to me!”

IQ is Mostly genetically based but I don’t think pigeon necessarily said or meant it is all genetically based. (maybe I’m wrong?)

Not sure what nerve his comment hit in you.

Ummmm - IQ is determined by testing of mental acuity and knowledge...even identical twins can have a significant gap in IQ based on a number of other factors...

I agree it’s a rich tapestry but good olde IQ testing from the 1940’s-1950’s is a pretty good predictor of a lot of things.

Hey, if the Demoncrats want abortion on demand why should this shock anyone? This reminds me of the tactic the Nazis would have used to ensure their “Master Race”.

Experts say the development represents an ethical minefield.

Not to worry ... they'll find an "ethicist" to say it's all peachy-keen.

Stupid comment.

See, that's why Freedom of Speech is great: it empowers the idiots to publicly identify themselves.

General IQ is the only valid issue. The others are made up to justify keeping people around who are stupid.

Yeah, he did.

And IQ is partly genetic and mostly environment.

Proper nutrition before birth, a peaceful environment for the mother, proper nutrition after birth, lot of interaction with mother and father these all raise a baby's IQ.

There was a case recently with identical twins where one was lost and sent to an orphanage. The one that was raised by her family had a 20 point IQ advantage over the lost twin.

That is a major swing.

And that is not even going into what happens during birth that can lower a child's IQ.

That’s not true. twin studies show genetics play a greater part than environment.

“ According to twin studies, genetics generally appear to play a more significant role than environment in determining many human traits, as identical twins (sharing the same genes) often exhibit greater similarities compared to fraternal twins (sharing only half their genes), even when raised in different environments; this suggests a substantial genetic influence on various characteristics. “—Google AI

“ Scientific Enquiry, Life Processes, and Physical Processes. Results indicate that genetic influences account for over 60% of the variance in scientific achievement, with environmental influences accounting for the remaining variance.’—national library of medicine.

of course environment it’s important, just of secondary importance to genetics.

The question if the IQ of the one twin was raised by their environment or if the IQ of the other was lowered is of course still up for debate but if IQ was so profoundly based on genetics it would show greater correlation.

And it doesn't.

The problem we run into is that identical twins raised in totally different environments is such a rare happenstance that we only have a handful of cases. Twins who were both adopted by American middle class intact families are raised in environments that are close enough that the differences should indeed be minimal.

The case I was talking about is a South Korean girl where one went to an orphanage where she was adopted by a US family and one stayed with her birth family was indeed a case of a very different environment but those cases are very unusual.

For a true study we would need to do it deliberately. And that idea repulses people with a shred of morality.

Now there have been such studies done in the past but the methods and results are questionable at best.
