Andrew Garfield recently told People magazine that Mel Gibson “deserves to make films” and has “done a lot of beautiful healing with himself.” Gibson’s career in Hollywood nosedived after his infamous DUI arrest in 2006, which included the “Braveheart” Oscar winner making comments disparaging Jewish people. Gibson directed Garfield in the 2016 war drama “Hacksaw Ridge,” for which Garfield was Oscar nominated for best actor. The filmmaker landed a best director nom.
“I learned a lot, actually. I learned that people can heal. I learned that people can change, that people can get help. I learned that everyone deserves respect,” Garfield answered when People asked what he learned from making “Hacksaw Ridge” with Gibson. “And that people deserve second chances, third chances, fourth chances. That none of us are infallible.”
“He’s done a lot of beautiful healing with himself,” Garfield added. “And thank God. Because he’s an amazing filmmaker, and I think he deserves to make films. He deserves to tell stories, because he has a very, very big, compassionate heart. He’s the kind of director that would come from behind the monitors, just with his eyes wet. He knew when it was right and he knew when it wasn’t right. And I just really trusted him. And he’s a visceral storyteller so he can feel… He’s like he can’t help but feel everything. He’s a real empathetic guy.”.
...Following his arrest in 2006, Gibson issued a lengthy apology for his comments about Jewish people and said “there is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of antisemitic remark.”

Andrew Garfield is correct, whoever he is.
Oh. He’s a Superhero actor, who usually does not show his face while in character. Of course, those movies are aimed at a younger group of customers than my age group.
Saying things about Jews is likely to get you shunned by Hollywood.
One of the best scenes [of VERY many] was when he came down off the Ridge and the rest of his buds realized that he was actual, for real "sky pilot".
fixed it.
Golly, a drunk in police custody says crazy things, but he is otherwise a good person, stays out of trouble, and is highly capable in his profession. Forgiveness for Mel Gibson is long overdue.
I agree. He did really good jobs in “Silence” and “Hacksaw Ridge”.
Exactly.
If the liberals can nominate a guy for VP that has a DUI and said some weird things when he was pulled over, surely they can allow some guy to be in films again.
That’s right. I’m forgiving and forgetting the ignorant things Mel said about the Jews.
Agreed.
That’s true, but on the other hand, you can be all “River to the sea” and if you simply don’t say “Death to the Jews!” somehow that’s fine.
Marlon Brando learned it too.
When compared to the other deviants that produce films Gibson is a saint. Hell, Hollywood adores Roman Polanski, they cheered Harvey Weinstein for a decade after Gibson’s incident.
They hate Mel for being a Christian.
They talk about how Gibson’s career took a nosedive after the DUI in 2006 but this is a guy who made somewhere between $350 and $400 for Passion of the Christ in 2004. He’s also directed several successful movies after that such as Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge.
Well, the Left now has no use for Mr. Garfield. Why? Because he is a forgiving man, and the Left does not forgive.
I always liked him, and as an actor he’s great.
He’s not just a super hero actor. In fact, he was only Spiderman 3 times. He’s got a long list of credits that are quite good ... including the one mentioned in this article - Hacksaw Ridge. He also played a Mormon detective in Under the Banner of Heaven miniseries. Very good show.
