Beware the realtors who would partition the afterlife.
But why mess around with old, worn out bodies if the spirit is already in Heaven?
* I assume on is a typo - you meant in.
Well, its kinda like the big bowl of Halloween candy with sign that says, "Everyone take one."
While it is offered to all, there will be some that do not like what is offered and wants something different.
I see...
 1 Corinthians 2:9
Rather, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and has not entered into heart of man, what God has prepared for those loving Him."
For the same reason that lost souls, now consciously suffering in Hades, (Luke 16:19-31: not a parable) will face the Lord Jesus in their bodies, as will believers at the judgment seat of Christ, being judged for what they did while in their bodies. For the redeemed, they have receive glorified physical bodies, testifying to a complete redemption (even for those who were beheaded), while the lost are judicially sentenced for what they did in their own bodies, and with their bodies, which they must own as a testimony against them. For before sentencing, God makes inquisition. (Psalms 9:12) You must bodily appear in court.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:10)
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death [the grave] and hell [their spiritual counterpart] delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (Revelation 20:13)* I assume on is a typo - you meant in.
Yes, "in Heaven" in Paradise, (Luke 23:43) the 3rd Heaven. (2 Corinthians 12:1-4)
There is only very little support for their doctrine in the Holy Bible.
“Got any proof of this assertion?”
If it wasn’t serious business, your comment from Post 123 would be laughable. I threw in your comment from this one because it is equally laughable.
To wit: Scripture was rewritten, changed through the first four centuries after Christ’s death.
Have you contemplated the state of the Christian Church vis a vis it’s foundation in the Holy Bible and the apparent glaring differences in doctrine which pretty much equals a state of confusion existing among them?
PS, spar me me the canned Mormon off shoots post please.
the confusion doesnt seem to bother the different churches today. they each say they are the real church
I must be getting old, for here I am repeating myself again: “Got any proof of this assertion?”
The Salt Lake City dudes say that THEIR church is the true one, while the FLDS folks claim that the SLC people have left their roots and ignore the church teachings that JS got directly from GOD.
the confusion doesnt seem to bother the different churches today. they each say they are the real church
Indeed they do. What’s your thought on the reality of that situation?
I must be getting old, for here I am repeating myself again: “Got any proof of this assertion?”
Of course, Prophets, Apostles, further light and knowledge, and continuing revelation.
That would be the most indicative of a liberal non-Christian mindset, as is simply contrary to context and the manner in which Scripture understands itself, which mindset easily lends itself to classifying the resurrection of Christ and believers are allegorical also. As with other forms of speech, the use of the latter does abound in Scripture, while representing literal things and used in describing the latter, but as with literal historical accounts, the devil and demons, heaven and hell, etc. are treated as literal.
Consistent with treating the devil and demons as non-literal, then consider how many text in your bible would effectively read read:
Being forty days tempted of the metaphorical devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the metaphorical devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the metaphorical devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, metaphorical Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (Luke 4:2-8)
And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the metaphorical devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. (Luke 4:9-13)
And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the metaphorical devil is gone out of thy daughter. And when she was come to her house, she found the metaphorical devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed. (Mark 7:29-30)
And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had metaphorical devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. (For he had commanded the metaphorical unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the metaphorical devil into the wilderness.) And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. Then went the metaphorical devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. (Luke 8:26-33)
And supper being ended, the metaphorical devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him; (John 13:2)
Ye are of your father the metaphorical devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a metaphorical murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he metaphorically speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a metaphorical liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)
And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, metaphorical Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: (Luke 22:31)
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the metaphorical devil. (Ephesians 6:11)
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the metaphorical devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
He that committeth sin is of the metaphorical devil; for the metaphorical devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the metaphorical devil. (1 John 3:8)
And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a metaphorical spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the metaphorical spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. (Acts 16:16-18)
You left out ‘I was raised middle class’ and ‘we had a green lawn’.
Of course, Prophets, Apostles, further light and knowledge, and continuing revelation.
I'm sorry, but claiming data that comes AFTER the 4th century does NOT prove anything.
One MUST have the data from BEFORE then that can prove any 'changes'.
Well, I think that the Book was right when it proclaimed:
1 Timothy 4:1-2
1. The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
2. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.1 Timothy 1:3-4
3. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer
4. nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.1 Timothy 6:3-5
3. If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,
4. he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions
5. and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.2 Timothy 2:15-17
15. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
16. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
17. Their teaching will spread like gangrene.Titus 2:15
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.1 Timothy 4:6
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.Romans 15:4
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.2 Timothy 3:16-17
16. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17. so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. But then, you DO make a good point:Romans 16:17
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.2 Thessalonians 3:6
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.
...and if indeed I was to include the two somewhat unrelated items you mentioned, how would your non answer change?
I see a few scriptures on false teaching and false teachers, and not one specific regarding doctrine which is precisely where the Christian Church falls on its face.
You cannot deal in doctrine because it is not consistent or true to some degree in every Christian faith I am familiar with.
It starts with revelation direct from God through his established Prophets, it has been so since the beginning through out the old, new, and further Testaments of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
As previously stated Christian’s rarely believe in the scripture they hold as the foundation of their “Church”. If one knows and understands truth it is very easy to see who is and is not a teacher of sound doctrine.
Without understanding, it is easy to reject anything that does not agree with any single individuals worldly view of God and his interaction with his children. Such a condition would be inconsistent with the foundational principles of continuing revelation through the Lord’s servants the Prophets, Apostles, etc.
I see...
...but just HOW is a prophet 'established'?
When Mormon 'Prophet' and second President of the Church, Brigham Young, spoke in 1863 the following said:
"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race?
If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God is death on the spot.
This will always be so."
(Journal of Discourses, Vo. 10, p. 110)
Deut 18:22 kjv
When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
