NBC's coverage of 1980 Election Night is available on YouTube. Within a couple of minutes of going on the air, John Chancellor reported (paraphrasing here) "We expect Governor Reagan to have a good night tonight." Essentially, NBC called the election for Reagan right away.

Even if we are blessed with a blowout Trump win on the evening of November 5, the media will never call the race for Trump ala 1980 (or 1984).

And if there are similar numbers in Trump’s favor November 5, NBC won’t say anything like that until the following Monday, if ever.
