Sadly the more ignorant people are about science the more likely they buy into wild conspiracy theories.

I have a good friend who never finished HS. He believes in:

Flat earth
Weather contrails (Gov putting chemicals in to do “x-y-Z” to people)
Weather control
…did I mention flat earth?

When I was in college and had the time, I use to read all the news magazines. They would report on governments doing research on weather control. That was thirty years ago. I assume they have made progress.

We had "chemtrails" being dispensed regularly in the skies of rural W. TN. for months before the TN government passed a law making it illegal to dispense chemicals into the atmosphere for purposes of weather modificition. After which, no more chemtrails.

Like a stopped clock, even a good friend is right twice each day.
