With the G4 watch in place, the storm presumably registers an 8 or 9 on the Kp index, which measures the level of geomagnetic activity. When the Kp value reach that high, aurora “will become very bright and very active,” according to NOAA. NOAA said the northern lights are most visible between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., and when away from city lights. Viewing is also best when the moon is small. According to Space.com, the moon will be about half full Thursday night. **** Comets, auroras, floods; oh my! What next, an earthquake?

I’m puttig a magnet in my front yard with the north pole pointed north.

Like charges repel each other and this will keep the Aurora away. Probably won’t even reach Tennessee because of my defense.

We saw them here (near Philly) last night around 7:30 .... were mostly red but on the phone camera you could see orange, purple and a little green too — really cool!

There were beautiful images of the northern lights from…Tennessee.

We’re at the grand solar maximum.

I looked last night in (mid center south) Alabama, and nothing. Saw Jupiter rising in the East North East, and it was spectacular! I could see the specks of the moons (Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto) through my 20X binoculars.

I’ll look again tonight.
