What the hell? I wake up with a damned bat in the room, I'm hauling my ass to the nearest urgent care for a rabies shot. I'd probably get another one a week later at another location to be sure the first wasn't near its expiration date. The shots aren't anything like they used to be to even begin to justify avoiding them compared to the risk of contracting RABIES, for God's sake.

Yes, this is the textbook rule.

If you wake up in a room and find a bat in it, you should assume an undetected bite and take the vaccine (four or five doses total spaced out over several days) and on the first day only, the globulin shot, which is antibodies directed at the virus.

Most people would have done what these parents did, which is understandable, but resulted in a preventable death.
