Trouble is that our side is not in power. The left controls the government and many of the courts. They have shown a very great willingness to weapon I ever the courts and the law against their political opposition. What do you think they would do with a law like this? I have some examples that are certainly not far-fetched:

1. They are saying that the recent flooding in NC,TN etc from hurricane Helene is directly related to climate change. Do you think they would not use this law to prosecute anyone who objects to this as a liar?

2. We know that abortion is killing a human, but they claim that a baby is not really human until birth. If someone maintains that the pre born baby is a human, would they not call that a “lie” and prosecute?

3. The Biden/Harris admin has set up an app where people can enter the country illegally and make an asylum claim, meaning that they are technically here legally. Think of the Hatian migrants in Springfield OH. When Trump or Vance calls them illegal migrants, that is technically untrue, even though we all know they entered illegally. Do you not think they would prosecute “liars” for calling them illegal?

4. We all know how Trump speaks. When he says something like “We created the best economy ever” we know that he just really means that we had a booming economy when he was in office. (Seriously, but not literally — that is the best explanation I’ve heard about how to interpret what Trump says). The left can point to say, unemployment numbers in 1948 that were 0.1% lower than the lowest figure under Trump and say “liar!” Do you think they would not prosecute under this law?

There are many other such examples. I get your frustration, and I think this idea is well-intentioned. But our Founders recognized that criminalizing political speech is a really bad idea. That has not changed over the past 250 years. God intentions are not enough — this law would lead to very undesirable effects.
