A phrase that doesn't come from the Bible and cannot stand scrutiny with the Bible.
I didn’t say it came from the Bible… it’s Ben Franklin; although I offer these as alternatives:
Colossians 3:23 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.
Deuteronomy 28:8 - The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to.
Proverbs 12:11 - He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment.
Proverbs 12:24 - Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.
Proverbs 13:4 - The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
Proverbs 16:3 - Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
I also think the parable of the women who kept their lamps filled with oil hints that God wants us to be proactive as well as faithful. Iff the pesky widow wasn’t actively nagging, she wouldn’t have received Jesus’ help. And the servant who did nothing with his master’s money received the Master’s wrath.
Just my opinion.

I prefer - “Pray as if it was up to God, work as if it was up to you...”
(dunno where I got it from)
