Francois Villon comes to mind, even though he was a century earlier - he was the first French writer to capture my interest in French, after countless school year trying to learn it.
Actually not. SunkenCiv was kind enough to send me a link that I was passing on to my New Zealand prof partner thinking it might interest him, but I wanted to add some links to the poet’s actual poetry. My prof bestie is one of the world experts on Shakespeare, and I pass him all the weird stuff I find.
When we were working together, he was good enough to help me attempt to build my dream black box - you put in a poem and out pops the answer to whether it’s by Henry Livingston or not. Absolutely ADORE the man! (the prof, though Henry, too)

Did you ever see the silent movie classic, The Beloved Rogue? John Barrymore plays Francois Villon.
