I threw right but batted left.

That is unusual. I'm left handed but swing a bat or a golf club right and I don't know why. A little time ago I was pared on the golf course with a young man with an English accent. He swung the club right handed but putted left handed. I asked him about it and he said he had recently taken up golf. When in England he was big in field hockey and a left handed swing was not permitted in field hockey so he had to learn to swing right handed. I learned something that day.

Same here. With the bat it's how I saw everyone else in my neighborhood do it. With the golf clubs it was basically the same thing...nobody had left handed clubs that I knew so better learn right handed.
