Music enthusiasts who prefer one-hit wonders over frequently-played radio hits can smile now National One-Hit Wonder Day is here.
Several X users have listed their favorite ones in honor of the day, most of which were released between the 1980s and 2010s.
Chart-topping hits like Gotye's 'Somebody I Used to Know' and Aqua's 'Barbie Girl' are just two of the many songs that were the top one-hit wonders

Golden Earring lasted for about 60 years and only hung it up when George Kooymans got ALS a few years ago.
Here’s the song off the original album. NSFW;

Now the original might be still be offensive to some.
yeah, what i mean is I don’t like the ‘debates’ as to absolute value of things. Like it’s a competition. I believe in Liberty. PPl can believe and express what they want. Not some absolute public ‘truth’ which denies others of their representation (liberty).
Should listen to ppl more often. Turn off the dictatorship of tyrants.
Enough already, it’s The Safety Dance. Hands down.
Moved from Indio, California to Calais, Maine in February, 1967. In the summer of ‘67 we started a rock and roll band. All idiot high school kids. Called it the East Coast, inspired by the Left Bank. I played the guitar a bit, but we needed a drummer, so for $100 I bought a set of used Pearl drums in a pawn shop in Portland, Maine, added some Zildjan cymbals and became the drummer. Probably didn’t spell the cymbal maker name correctly.
At the same time worked as a DJ at the local radio station. Almost got fired for playing Bobbie Gentry’s Ode to Billy Joe on Sunday morning.
This thread brings back a lot of memories and tunes I appreciated lo those many years and decades ago.
Romancing the Stone reached #40 1984 US Top 100
Two Tribes, #43 same year, US Top 100. Hardly hits.
Astoundingly obvious who wrote “Putin on the Ritz”. That doesn’t change the fact that Taco was a one hit wonder with his version.
Another One-Hit Wonder with a cover
Money - The Flying Lizards

In addition to “Radar Love” and “Twilight Zone”, Golden Earring’s “The Devil Made Me Do It” is an awesome tune.
The whole “Moontan” album is great.
Your Susanna Hoffs pic made my night………
RTR.
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
Loved that song by Dexy’s Midnight Runners, but they had another hit in England, “Jackie Wilson Said” that I liked even better
I read that the rights had been fraudulently lifted from it’s African author. Apparently he or his heirs also sued Disney for lifting the song for a movie. I hope the family took them all to the cleaners.
One of the most appealing and creative things I recall about that song (Love Fool), is that each line of the verse ended with a complete chord. It was nice, and seemed to add ‘color’ to the notes. I would suspect the reason more makers of Pop Music don’t do the same is because they don’t understand enough about how full harmony can be achieved.
Chumbawamba tubthumping is the first song in my playlist.
“Sugar, Sugar” - The Archies
Key Largo is by Bertie Higgins.
Brandy - Looking Glass. That song brings up so many memories.
Saw her live as a solo artist in a fairly small venue in 1996. I had to check my collection of ticket stubs to know the exact year. Not sure about today but can confirm it back then.
I named mine Gas Guzzler. 6 mpg when I was jumping on it. 1974 Thunderbird.
