It depends on how one-hit wonder is defined...in Joel Whitburn’s Top Pop Singles 1955-1993, he lists those artists who hit #1 while it was the only song of theirs that ever reached the Billboard Top 100.

A few are:

Laurie London-He’s Got The Whole World (In His Hands)
Silhouettes-Get A Job
Elegants-Little Star
Hollywood Argyles-Alley-Oop
The Singing Nun-Dominique
Zager & Evans-In The Year 2525

Wasn’t Brandy (by Looking Glass) a one hit wonder?

I would assume that most of the groups had more than one song get recognized by charting....but I tried to list the songs which were “hits” and got lots of airplay...at least in my area...
I believe the Essex had another song and Percy Sledge ..but I don’t remember the songs as “hits”
Anyway. there is a lot of great songs out there. One hit wonder groups and famous artists who had a little gem which few listeners know about..
Could probably devote a podcast or radio show about one hit wonders for a long time before repeating a single song...

Speaking of Essex, David Essex - Rock On.

I know he was huge in England and had a lot of hits there, but in the US, that was it.

The Surfaris also scored, at least here in the Southland, with Surfer Joe, which I believe was the flip side of "Wipe Out." I posted the full version here, which explains why the song ends with "poor Joe."

Surfin Bird - The Trashmen

Yup. For pure lyricism that one's got it.

Don't you know about The Bird?

There's no right or wrong answer to this one.

I vote "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by The Tokens or "Girl from Ipanema"

"Driver's Seat" by Sniff 'n' The Tears - That song never gets old.

Still think "Spirit In The Sky" by Norman Greenbaum is the greatest one hit wonder of all time. I got at least one speeding ticket listening to that song. "Driver's Seat" makes me want to slow down and cruise the beach, or the mall parking lot.

"Beach Baby" by First Class is another great song.
