The pride and joy of Vladimir Putin's Northern Fleet appears doomed to never set sail again, with its crew being redeployed to the meat grinder in eastern Ukraine.
The Kremlin has sunk millions of rubles into trying to resuscitate the fortunes of the 39-year-old Admiral Kuznetsov.
Not only is the vessel the flagship of Russia's Northern Fleet, but it is also the only aircraft carrier Putin's navy has.
The ship was supposed to set sail from the port in Murmansk for the first time in eight years in the spring.
However, it remains firmly tethered to its moorings in its northern port and seems destined for the scrap heap.

And Crimea status will be tabled for 10 years.
He will stop it by making us energy and oil rich again, allowing the companies to drill. Most countries will buy from us, rather than buy the Russian stuff, which will drain Russia funds and force them to back off.
Putin started the war becuase he was rich in revenue from all the countries buying oil from him when Biden shut down the industry.
True.
This will be coupled with a cut-off of US taxpayer funds and also a cut-off of weapons support to the Ukraine.
Sanctions will NEVER be dropped.
The neocons and the useless losers who run the governments of the West have no reverse gear.
There’s a problem with cutting off all funds: Ukraine would collapse into a failed state. We are funding their government, pension funds, entire economy. A Libya in Europe would never be tolerated.
On the brighter side, a horrified EU might be willing to pony up and relieve us of much of the burden.
Sad but true.

Get some new yams, and wear them in front this time!
That will be the Stick that gets the little grifter and his Azov pals to the negotiating table.
During his time in the navy, he was onboard the USS America on its last tour when the Kuznetsov sailed to the Mediterranean in 1995. TLDR, the Kuznetsov was hastily and badly built due to economic needs and was and still is barely functional. She uses Mazut fuel oil, without preheating so the ship produces smoke that is visible from miles away and gets in everywhere onboard. The ship has power outages, lack of heating and AC, at times half the toilets work. During the deployment, the Kuznetov's evaporates broke and the ship had to dock in Syria to get safe drinking water. Later the ship's engines were so unreliable an ocean going tug was added to her operating group.
The USS America was on her last tour, and she had several times the capability and ran like a major warship should. Carroll did not have a good impression of the ship 20 years ago, and nothing has changed since. Just like Russia has not fixed problems with the rest of their military.
Russia was in very sad shape indeed during the 1990s (as was Ukraine), and yes, that ver much included its military. But things have changed since. No, the Russians have not fixed *all* the problems in their military, but it’s in far better shape than what they had in the 1990s. Those who imagine it’s still like back then are fooling themselves.
How do you know Putin is embarrassed? Been talking to him lately? I guess you’re the Mary Trump of the Kremlin.
