Dude sexually assaulted a 60 year old woman with the intelligence of a 2 year old....in a public run rehabilitation facility...
Not his first time at the rodeo either

No, but Alex Jones exploited the deaths of those children to make money. The damage award ensures this despicable act on his part will only result in his complete financial collapse.

You mean that NBCABCCNN.....don’t make money when they exploit tragedies when they report the news?

You should look up what “defamation” and “slander” mean. They are exactly about saying stuff that hurts the reputation of people. It’s a little more than “hurt feelings”, but at its root…its along those lines.

You're the one who drifted from reality when you said: "This is like punishing someone for slapping you by shooting them in the stomach."

The disparity between what he allegedly did and the degree to which they punished him makes my analogy accurate.

Their punishment was an excessive overreaction to what he supposedly did.

I simply responded that depending upon the circumstances, if you slapped my wife or me, I just might kill you.

Well then you are okay with ridiculous overreactions to offenses. You are not what we need in the justice system. We need rational objective people who will mete out fair justice.

He did more than just "allow" people to defame those families, he did it himself.

Did what? What possible thing could he have done that is equal to a billion dollars worth of harm to anyone?

I don't know about you, but my reputation is worth quite a bit to me.

Anyone who thinks their "reputation" is worth a billion dollars is full of themselves. This is nonsense on the face of it.

I would imagine those families felt the same, and were able to show those damages in court.

To me you are sounding like a nut. There is *NOTHING* he could have done to equal that level of damages. Especially nothing short of kidnapping and torturing them. There are people responsible for manslaughter that are not punished to this degree. OJ Simpson, who literally killed two people, was not hit with damages to this degree.

If you cannot grasp the concept of a reasonable punishment, I despair of being able to explain it to you. This is something that rational people ought to know instinctively, yet clearly some people are motivated by emotion to punish people to the nth degree.

And, how would you know this? Were you sitting in the courtroom listening to testimony and examining evidence?

How can I explain this to you in a way you will grasp it?

If I said the award was for 100 trillion dollars, would that get through to you? All we need to know it is nonsense is the fact of the award.

What level of money or punishment would it take for you to understand the concept of "excessive"? Would cutting off his head be a reasonable response for whatever he may or may not have said on his radio program?

Should we slap chains on him and make him pick cotton?

You are irrational, and I don't wish to argue this nonsense with you any further. Your judgement is flawed, and I hope I can avoid people who think like you do in the future.

You did the right thing. Obviously *MOST* of the people thought that was the right thing to do. I suspect the perp was of a protected class, and this is why a woman might not want to convict him.

In law they have this concept of punishing people to a similar degree. Do you know of a case in which a similar punishment was meted out for a similar offense?
