HURRICANE HELENE LIVE THREAD

This is the live thread dedicated to Hurricane Helene and the people in the path of it. I am one such person, though I am far inland in North Georgia.
News reports state that this is likely to be one of the most explosive hurricanes in hurricane history.
If I cannot participate at some point, that is because my power went out.
I wish everyone good luck, and please stay safe!

I am in Central Florida too (Winter Haven). There are still two models in the Spaghetti models that show the storm coming close. This could be bad for North Georgia and North Carolina. I was in NC once as a young child with my parents on vacation. A hurricane came through and dumped major amounts of rain. A dam broke and washed the road out so we were there for an extra week waiting for repairs.

My daughter lives in Plant City, just East of Tampa. This is her first hurricane. Praying for both of you!

How high above sea level do you live? Most models have it going just east of you.

I must ask. During a Zoom (on-line) business meeting with a mime in Orlando, should all attendees mute their microphones? LOL! Good point. It's funny... The first time I was set to ever meet him over the phone, I thought "Crap! Am I gonna hear anything??" 😜 As an aside, he just now texted to cancel. Said he's gonna be busy battoning down his house.

What is a “comealong “? I’m totally unfamiliar with hurricane and tropical storm prep.

I hope not in Albany. That place is bad enough without a hurricane.

Doc Brown, but beware, the Libyans are pissed..

A comealong is a hand powered winch, usually with a steel wire rope. They can move a load about 25 feet. Quite handy when used properly, to move debris or whatnot. Can be dangerous when abused.

That seems pretty good. Be ready for power to be out. I had 89 acres of pine trees just north of Panama City that were around 36 years old when Hurricane Michael hit. They were all snapped off just above the ground.
