This is the live thread dedicated to Hurricane Helene and the people in the path of it. I am one such person, though I am far inland in North Georgia.
News reports state that this is likely to be one of the most explosive hurricanes in hurricane history.
If I cannot participate at some point, that is because my power went out.
I wish everyone good luck, and please stay safe!
¿No comprende?
That’s ok. Last week there was a thread making fun of the fact that there hasn’t been many hurricanes. Oops. What some don’t realize is hurricane season goes until November. September and October can be busy.
You and I might be neighbors. I’m close to north GA.
Jim Cantore is the high priest of storm surge and cat 4 winds.
Sweet. When we are done collecting North GA people, we should all get together.
After the hurricane, of course.
I’m in South Georgia, right in the path. Hope it goes through quickly.
That would be great.
Helene is my mom’s name. I think she just got a new nickname.
When are you coming to Florida again?
5.56mm
Be safe my Florida Patriots
“Last year’s storm was three hours of twelve-mile-an-hour wind. It was delightful, even tho they all said it was going to literally wipe Tampa off the map”
Flush out your head gear dude.....there’s some folks in the Fort Meyers area that would like to set you straight on that comment
People have to live somewhere.
That said, there’s far more to this than just bad weather.
In any case, what those folks are on the hook for, to my mind, is refusing to carry insurance/being underinsured and expecting someone else to pick up the tab for their pi$$ poor planning.
When conditions on the ground change, and I’m not talking weather, then you need to adjust your planning accordingly.
Believing what the government tells you is dumb.
Trusting the government to bail you out is dumber still.
Demanding your fellow taxpayers to do it when you could have done it yourself is contemptible.
Keep a weather eye to the sky and plan to take care of yourselves and your families.
Don’t wait for someone else to do it for you.
Continuing prayers for all in harm’s way.
Yes, the peak is Sept 10th (my twins birthday), so lots to come after that.
Just spoke with daughter in path. She says they aren’t evacuating and are totally prepared. They never leave unless bigger than Cat 3, so I told her if it goes to Cat 4 to please leave.
Hmmm... I was supposed to have a Zoom meeting with one of the Orlando SeaWorld mimes today. Now, maybe not.
Stay safe, FRiend. As one who lived through the South Florida 2004/2005 Hurricane Season, I’ll be praying for y’all.
I was thinking tomorrow. Maybe Thursday. Depends when the storm surge is highest.
Seriously, unsure. Now that I have a new-to-me Lexus, I can trust the car more and maybe can come sometime before the year is out? Maybe during my Christmas work break? Is it possible to enjoy the ocean during December? Or is it too cold?
I'll bite. What the hey does this mean?
Someday, I want to see Hurricane Lazamataz.
Loss of power? Have you thought about solar?
No, but I am presently designing a small backyard nuclear reactor.
All I need is enriched uranium. Got any leads?
