It [the storm] would not dare interrupt that.

At 6 a.m., 30 miles from Cedar Key, completely calm, no rain..that will change in the next few hours.

Getting ready to close up the 5th wheel and head out. I hope everything is still here when I get back.

Fast moving storm so whatever happens will be relatively short duration.

...Except when the remnants of the storm park near the Missouri bootheel, if the forecast is right. The West KY forecast is up to over 4" of rain now. Soils are so dry though, and the period not short, that only localized flooding is expected if a couple heavy bands come through. It's generally a good problem (badly needed rain), not so much for the FL panhandle. :-(

We’re 90 miles north northeast of Atlanta. Since 4 pm Tuesday we’ve had 3.5” of rain. Most on Tuesday was a frontal passage. Since then steady light rain from Helene has gotten us to the 3.5” total. RIGHT NOW we only expect four more inches (or less) as the storm blows by tonight on its way to KY.

Max winds for us now forecast to be 22kts sustained, gusts to 50 at 5 AM Friday (per windy.com). We see those kinds of winds in the winter after a big cold front comes booming through.

We should be fine.

One of the bands passed at about 9:30 am. The wind went from light to debris being blown horizontally for about 20 minutes. It got really, really dark. Power was on and off, then went off for good. That was over 2 hours ago and power just came back on. Now wind is light and the sky is only partly cloudy (for now).

I am on the east side of Winter Haven. Right on the shore of Lake Hamilton.

Kinda missed you there.

We just got officially upgraded to a tropical storm WARNING. Seems it’s gonna get real here.

In fact tropical storm wind are supposed to extend into Tennessee and North Carolina. Wow!

It’s quite hilly here so flooding is a non issue. BUT we are heavily forested- tall oldish hardwood. Winds ARE a risk.

I wonder what the record is for sustained speed of forward progress of a hurricane (say, at least for 12 hours) after landfall?
