I went to a Hy-Vee once and was impressed.

Gelsons is just high priced.

Trader Joe’s is ok, but is a bit more a specialty store.

Aldi is owned by the same German company that owns Trader Joe’s. It’s great. Good selection, good quality, low prices (until Biden).

I never heard of the others either.

Not quite. Here's an explanation from Copilot AI:

Aldi and Trader Joe’s are not owned by the same company, but they do share a historical connection through the Albrecht family. Here’s a brief overview:

Aldi: The Albrecht brothers, Theo and Karl, founded Aldi in Germany. They eventually split the company into two separate entities: Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. Aldi Süd operates the Aldi stores in the U.S. and other countries, while Aldi Nord operates in different regions of Europe12.

Trader Joe’s: Trader Joe’s was acquired by Theo Albrecht, who managed Aldi Nord, in 1979. Despite this acquisition, Trader Joe’s operates independently from Aldi stores23.

So, while there is a familial link, Aldi and Trader Joe’s are run as separate companies.

“Aldi is owned by the same German company that owns Trader Joe’s.”

I never heard that Trader Joe’s is owned by a German company. Is that true?

My daughter, her husband and I were visiting relatives in Texas. We walked into an Aldi, went in three directions, and none of us could find anything we’d eat. Looked seriously like a store for junk food junkies.
