Hy Vee is not for those on a tight budget. But it is well-run with more than usual selection. Hy Vee has very wide selection of takeout, usually good.

We tend to start at Aldi for basics, then to regional chain Fareway, and then what can’t be found can usually be at Hy Vee.

While I am sure it is not the “best” Chinese food, HyVee will occasionally have a buy one, get one for $1 or recently had for $6, a “two entree” Chinese meal. The portions are huge, and we can get two meals from each. Plus they are freshly cooked, right in the store.

Also love Fareway, especially for meats from the meat service counter.

Hy Vee Chinese is not that bad. It can be hit or miss depending on where you go but if you have a good store around you, it’s pretty decent. A lot of other things are overpriced.
