Legendary American rocker Freddie Salem has died at the age of 70.

The Outlaws guitarist passed away from 'complications due to cancer', his former band confirmed.

... Originally a drummer, Salem switched to the guitar at the age of 15.

The Akron, Ohio born performer was the only musician in his family but credited his love of music to hanging out around the jukebox in his father's bar.

Salem toured with the Rolling Stones at one point with the band, calling the experience 'incomparable'.

I saw Lynyrd Skynrd at Winterland , the Outlaws were the 2nd bill. They played two nights. The second night for an encore , the Outlaws joined LS on stage and they played T for Texas , it was a guitar army , no doubt about that.

Ah those were the days.

I saw them a few times, once with Charlie Daniels.

In my day last century

Southerner Florida gerrymandered its way all through the state down to clewiston and Everglades city

And Homestead too

Even in MyAmUh as they called it

And let’s don’t forget Davie

Even the keys had southern acents

In the 60s it was still very southern most of the state

White shell roads and 41 and 19 as two lane US highways went forever

Silver Springs and Cypress Gardens

Destin only had the holiday inn and it was piney nothing tween there and PCB

Cubans and Jews did it

And the mouse

You’d always had wasp rich at Palm Beach and Hobe Sound and Boca Grande

Northern and parts of the interior are still southern largely

Of course in summer the entire south that doesn’t go to the Atlantic goes to nw Florida along with midwesterners too

65 is like UT game day on rental turnover day even up here in TN

Beach people

With kids did that for 25 years

One weird thing I noticed young in Florida besides the copper tone little girl butt in the billboards was beach dwelling youth had a southern version of a California beach accent dude lol

Did I bring back memories for us over 55 here

I saw them live once - and for the life of me I can’t remember where.
‘Twas decades ago…

Yep, Ft. Walton Beach had a strip shopping center with not a lot of stores. There were always a few boats in the inlet at Destin and that was about it.

Another three guitar onslaught.

Billy Jones was one of the originals along with Hughie.

I saw the tour that they did with the Stones. Memphis Memorial Stadium in 75.

I remember driving through the Orlando area on the Turnpike and there were orange groves everywhere.
