Oprah Winfrey had a townhall style “interview” with Kamala Harris. All of the ruling class were in attendance —Julie Roberts, Meryl Streep, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Tracey Ellis Ross — most of whom are afflicted with existential angst as opposed to, you know, practical problems of daily life?
I’m sure an event with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts was a great way to win over undecided Voters. They’re probably out there thinking, I can’t put food on the table, and I can’t send my kid to school without worrying about them coming home and asking for puberty blockers, and what is going on in Springfield? Are we on the brink of World War III? Ah, but the celebrities will help. They will guide me! Yes! I’ll vote for Harris!
Hollywood doesn’t seem to have gotten the message that almost no one cares what they think. I’d go so far as to say that the majority of Americans can’t stand Hollywood anymore, especially celebrities, preaching to them about what to think and how to vote.
There is something grotesque and unseemly about doubling down on the problem that plagues the Democrats: elitism. Maybe that works in good times. In bad times? All it does is highlight the disconnect between the very rich and the struggling working class.
But it might have been an opportunity for Harris to knock it out of the park, to deliver a strong argument to Americans beyond “Trump is bad.”
She bragged about how she’d shoot anyone who broke into her home. News to those of us who have heard nothing but lectures about people like Julia Roberts and Meryl about the gun problem in America.
At the same time, the NRA circulated a video of Harris talking about going into locked homes to make sure Americans were in compliance: ....SNIP
Streep is good at memorizing lines but bad at thinking on her feet.
Vassar and Yale Graduate...
I saw Streep perform in several plays when she was at the Yale Reparatory theater in the 70s. We had season tickets. She was very young. I didn’t like her then either. She was too effusively dramatic and I hated her accents. I thought she was very plain looking too.
She was horrible in “Holocaust”. It’s funny how her and James Woods ended up on completely opposite sides of the political spectrum.
Hard to believe she was dating “Fredo”.
I’m sure she knows ALL ABOUT giving personal dramatic performances for Harvey Weinstein.
Stolen from someone awhile ago - kept it with my other quotes:
“With age comes wisdom but sometimes age comes alone.”
Her admonishing voters to “just be” reminds me of the movie “Roxanne” in which the handsome but dimwitted Chris finally talks face-to-face with Roxanne without being fed lines by Steve Martin’s Cyrano character.
Roxanne: Where are you from?
Chris: Albuquerque. A-l-b-u-q-u-e-r-q-u-e.. It is an old bar bet.
Do you know where I want to go? San Francisco. I have been there. It is great; I am really a 49ers fan; not so much the Giants...
The Redwoods, you should see them. I like to go there and just —be. I always take a meat sandwich with me.
She knew. She made a deal with the devil. I googled Weinstein, Streep, Oscar.

…
Meryl Streep and Harvey Weinstein worked together on several films, including The Iron Lady (2012) and August: Osage County (2013), both of which earned Streep Academy Award nominations. Streep won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in The Iron Lady, and during her acceptance speech, she thanked Weinstein and called him “God”.
Just be unbeed by what what formerly beed.
“Just be” means “Don’t think”.
“Just be” means “Don’t think”.
BINGO!
I would love to see a Trump campaign commercial with a scrolling screen, listing every Harris Hollywood supporter’s name and NET WORTH, ending with “These people made their fortunes selling fiction”
The Repukes are dropping the ball yet again. So much material to work with in their ads to attack the Democrats and they don’t use it.
>>Vassar and Yale Graduate...<<
There are many "educated" idiots...just look at the Demonrat politicians...
White women cry for Harris. The 19th Amendment shouldn’t be a suicide pact.
At least women voters used to vote for the better looking male candidate.
Now it’s all about the “V”.
One, there remains a sizable contingent of Americans who like to hear vapid platitudes and feel good catchphrases from important people. Perhaps there are deep psychological reasons for this, but whatever the mysterious reasons, many Americans receive such gobbledygook positively. Some of these might have been undecideds, and they simply needed this platitudinous blather to nudge them towards Kamala.
Secondly, she tapped into a huge platform connected to a cultural figure like Oprah in an endorsement-like event. Regardless of the content of the conversation, just getting peoples' time and attention in a friendly setting is a net positive for Kamala.
Right wingers are angry, frustrated and cynical, and understandably so. We have been wronged, and have been on the receiving end of progressive overreach for a long time. But it is a simple fact that indignation, even when righteous, is less appealing to the undecideds than positivity, even when fake.
“The Repukes are dropping the ball yet again.
THEY NEVER fail. Republicans need to be unburdened with the burden of being.
