Ranked: The Most Reliable Car Brands
As the saying goes, “It’s not how fast you can go, but how far you can get”—and in today’s world, a dependable car is crucial for getting you wherever you need to go.
Reliability, or how consistently a vehicle performs without experiencing mechanical failures or issues over time, remains a key factor when choosing which brand of vehicle to purchase.
This graphic visualizes the predicted reliability scores of various automakers, as ranked by Consumer Reports. The data is updated as of November 2023.
Asian Automakers Lead The Pack Lexus and Toyota ranked first and second respectively as Consumer Reports’ most reliable car brands in this latest edition of the rankings.

I’ve had to put some money into my 2001 Chevy Silverado pickup, but it’s still reliable.
We do have a reputable Euro service shop here, but I haven’t talked to them yet. I’m assuming they should be able to take care of me, at least for regular maintenance.
I’d almost have a z3 if I could get the Q package.

I liked the Aston Martin Timothy Dalton had better for Bond cars.
If AnglePark doesn’t get back to you, I will. Spring for the bumper-to-bumper $2K up front, and your service is free of charge. Well worth the investment.
The OEM BMW scan tool/programing tool is floating about the internet. unfortunately getting it in english is hard but it’s out there. (directions on how to do what you want are out there too. )
I wonder if it’ll do MINI as well (probably) I have used it to code options in and out of e90s before putting them on the lot.
The first owner of mine was obviously a MINI fan, and had the dealership add the JCW tuning and exhaust kit to it. The torque on this thing blows me away. Giddyup! Combined with the way it handles, it really is the most fun I’ve ever had in a car.
I love that song. The live version is even more fun with audience participation.
No kidding, once you’ve experienced one you’re hooked. I told my wife after I bought it that I’ll never be without one.
Back in the early 2000s I bought a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 from a friend. It was probably my favorite sports car I’ve owned, until I bought the Cooper.
Are you talking about US 60 between Globe and Show Low? That is a fun road. So is US 191 (formerly 666, the Highway of the Beast) from Morenci up to Alpine. Long time since I've driven either one, though.
I don’t think they participate .
I have a Range Rover (big one) that is 11 years old and over 150k miles. Now a college kids car.
Literally all I’ve done is regular maintenance. Never a major problem.
Have a new one that’s my daily driver and it’s going on 20k miles and two years with nothing but an oil change.
Or a baby’s arm holding an apple...
I had a Gremlin in the 70s too.
Kia and Hyundai? With their engine issues?
My Tacomas, unless wrecked, are all still running with 400,000 plus miles. Of course, if I ever wanted to haul or tow anything of consequence, I’d have borrow someone’s Ford or Dodge.
When i was a kid we had nextdoor neighbors that bought a Gremlin and later a Pacer, or the other way around......at any rate, even as a young teen I remember wondering what the hell they were thinking buying those two POSs. Lol!
I once had a couple of Triumph Spitfires. If I wasn't under the bonnet, I was under the car. Learned a lot with those cars.
Second most reliable car of mine was an ‘86 Ford Ranger pickup (2WD) extended cab - I
won’t give it a reliability award because it ATE headlights. I had to replace 2 headlights per year, approximately. Years after I sold the truck, I was talking
to an auto mechanic about something else, and he told me: ‘bad voltage regulators - those years of Ford trucks - yup…’
You had to disassemble the entire grill every time to replace a headlight.
A real pain in the rump. But I did get over 250,000 miles on that thing.
Parked it in a GMC dealers lot when I traded it for a new GMC Sierra
4x4, and Pop! Slosh! - the cooling system Went (on the Ford) - coolant all over the lot.
That was the second thing that went wrong with the Ford
before I traded it. But I and the dealer had already ‘signed on the dotted line’
before the cooling system let loose, so no problem for me !
The first problem was the entire exhaust system - front to back - was a rusted out mess. But that was figured into the trade price.
The GMC ran like a Billy goat up & down the mountains of
VA, NC, SC, WV, PA, OR, back and forth across the whole country, and
weekly ‘commuting’ from Richmond, Virginia to Columbia, SC.
My girlfriend would see me once a week. She called me the ‘Road King’, LOL!
yes that’s The One — US 60, Salt River Canyon. decades ago they Reengineered that road and expanded the width and banked all the curves so that going uphill you can really fly as long as you don’t have somebody in front of you.
My highlander has been reliable but the maintenance can get speedy. Start/stop engine batteries are more expensive. I have the V6 and the intake manifold has to come off to access the back three spark plugs during the service interval at 80K. I’ve also needed 3 alignments in ~100k miles.
