Twenty-five inmates died in custody from various causes in August alone, with a total of nearly 250 since January.

For pedophiles I agree.

But I am guessing most of that 250 inmates were not pedophiles.

Someone imprisoned for car theft should expect to serve his time and come out alive at the end and unmolested.

Unless he pissed off someone on the street, and justice was administered behind bars. You'd be surprised how many street grudges end up being resolved behind bars. Criminals will wait years to get even with someone, and will get the job done if possible behind bars. I worked 25 years in uniform in NY State's prison system and saw it in real time. One case while I was at Auburn prison in the early 80's that I'll never forget was a tall, good looking black kid name Molyneaux who had his throat slit in his cell because of some crap that went down in the streets. I don't know if they ever caught the perp. Tried to do a search but came up empty-handed, but did find an article about a fracas at Auburn prison just 9 days ago:

Inmate attacks lead to multiple injuries at Auburn Correctional Facility

I'm one of the lucky ones who lived to retire. The co-workers that died during my career, died from terminal illnesses, heart attacks, strokes, accidents, and suicide. Most were younger than me. I'm a 77 year old female. Only worked in male prisons. Was only assaulted twice in all the years I worked in the job. Both times very mild...no loss of time. Retired as a Sergeant in 2003. Decent pension and benefits. It was getting bad inside when I retired. Can't even imagine what it's like now. Governor Hochul is closing at least 5, if not 6 more prisons this year. That means more convicts out on the street before their sentences are done.

Most probably were not, but prison politics are different. There are many things that can get them killed. Drug debts, thefts, disrespect, racial hatred. The Surenos and Nortenos have been fighting (allegedly) for 70 years, over a pair of tennis shoes. It’s a whole different world.

Freepers don’t even think about those that might die while they are in there for other reasons. Like say refusing to answer questions for a democrat J6 law fare committee. There is a real problem when that many people are being murdered in prison.

And ready to pitch for the Indians.
