Then how do they know it was a violent end?

When I was at San Quentin, and I am sure the same thing applies today, they might have been conducting a mandatory standing count. If the inmate won’t stand up, staff will think something is wrong, and will find out why. It’s at count time, where many things are discovered.

We didn’t have standing counts. But at all major counts we need to see some exposed flesh and physical movement.
