My wife has followed the detail of this trial and I have peripherally seen enough to give some opinions.
She was on one psycho-tropic drug and switched to another that has all sorts of warnings about use for those under 28 yielding terrible reactions. I had a relation commit suicide on it at mid 20s. There is written documentation about hearing and having difficulty with constant voices telling her to do things. She was not violent in any manner previously although she complied with a friend’s request to bring her Swiss Army knife to school to show her and was put in alternate school for a semester.
Her step dad appears convinced it was not in her nature or intent to shoot his mother and him. He talks with her almost every day in a supportive manner.
I wouldn’t give her a major sentence of 40 years to life. I feel it is over charged and she should be placed in mental illness prison and re-evaluated at 18.

Carly’s concurrent illicit drug use and that she did not taper off her earlier med as prescribed should not be discounted.
