I know a song from over 50 years ago, but resonates today.

I always felt sorry for Ringo and George, they had to deal with the aholes, John and Paul.

Ringo is still alive at 84.

Flame away.

For those who don’t know, George wrote it.

“I always felt sorry for Ringo and George, they had to deal with the aholes, John and Paul.”

Any other normal musicians would have been dwarfed by John and Paul who were brilliant composers. Heck the songs they gave away to others weren’t bad.

Here’s a Cilla Black song I recently discovered. Mainly written by Paul and was written for her. Almost a Shirley Bassey type song. 1964 era music with sophisticated chord changes in 6/8. Cilla’s voice can be annoying in the bridge but I can still appreciate the song itself.

No need to feel sorry for George and Ringo. They were part of one of the greatest rock bands that went for about 9 years or so and retired on top.

Great song, yes, written by George.

The Stones may have never taken off, had The Beatles not let them cover “I Wanna Be Your Man”.

Yep. The Stones have said that early on the Beatles encouraged them to write their own songs.

The Stones were a different animal than the Beatles but the Beatles provided some inspiration for the Stones at times - notably Her Satanic Majesties Request. The Stones were like the Beatles’ evil twin. :-)

The first record I ever purchased was Ringo’s “Photograph” 45 RPM. Spent my own paper route money.

Ringo, like Paul, was happy to make music hall tunes that people like to hear. When George got involved he couldn’t resist the urge to put that Hare Krishna stuff in all the lyrics:

“Please, remember peace is how we make it
Here within your reach if you’re big enough to take it”

Perhaps the nadir for the Stones. The Stones have done a bunch of stuff that's not great, but HSMR is just bad.

“George wrote it.”

#############

Interesting, because the chorus of It Don’t Come Easy has the same chord pattern as the verses in Clapton’s Let It Rain.

Of course, that’s not the only thing they shared around that time (!).

George had real talent....Ringo didn’t.

Much of what the Stones did up to 1971 was great....just about nothing they did after was even good.

Also that “Hare Krishna” during the guitar solo is a dead giveaway that it’s Harrison’s song.

Ringo was the perfect drummer for The Beatles.

After “Exile”, “Some Girls” was the only really good Stones album.

Completely different styles. Ginger was a jazz drummer in a rock band.
