I have a Gamo 1000 fps .177 caliber air rifle that I am using to teach my grandson to shoot.
I bought Daisy pellets for ammo and I think that they are a bad batch because I can't get a consistent grouping.
I am at best 12 inch groups at 20 yards.
I am looking for recommendations for good quality pellets.

Iron sights of scope? Some of the optics air guns come with are pretty poor.
I have a Game and it seems happy with most pellets.

You may need to try a variety to find one your rifle “likes”.

The link provided by sasquatch has a number of sampler packs, that ought to make it easier to find a pellet your gun likes.

Are the pellets making nice round holes, or are they oblong or hitting sideways?

Round holes as far as I can tell.

Could you give a description of the pellets? Perhaps from the label?

Daisy .177 cal lead pellets. That is all that is on the box.
they are flat headed and conical based.

Competition distance is typically 10 meters (33 feet).
There are competition pellets for a price.

Start with 10 meter shooting. Twenty yards is too far a stretch to build confidence.

Any idea what ‘single die pellets are?
Benjamin is selling them at a premium.

An unusually large group for 20 yards.
Have you tried firing from a sturdy rest to minimize human error? It may help with the diagnosis.
Pellet rifles are very sensitive to "follow through". Any movement at the time of firing is magnified.
Some designs are more sensitive than others. My Webley Tempest pistol shoots terrible groups if it is rested on a hard surface when firing. Some padding on a rest usually helps.

RWS makes probably the best pellets.
Available at any major supplier.
Pointed pellets are nice for penetration.
The RWS pellet rifles are unsurpassed!
