Merrick Garland and the ‘Norms’ of Justice - Did he think his Trump prosecutions wouldn’t get a furious response?
Wall Street Journal ^ | 12 Sep, 2024 | The Editorial Board

The speech that Attorney General Merrick Garland delivered Thursday at the Justice Department must have been intended to echo throughout the land. After thanking the DOJ’s 115,000 staff for their work to prosecute heinous crimes and hold polluters accountable, he turned to the topic, implicitly, of Donald Trump.

Mr. Garland lauded the ideal of equal and impartial justice, while saying he’s seen in his tenure how DOJ employees have upheld it. “Our norms,” the AG said, “are a promise that we will not allow this department to be used as a political weapon. And our norms are a promise that we will not allow this nation to become a country where law enforcement is treated as an apparatus of politics.”

He went on to denounce “an escalation of attacks on the Justice Department’s career lawyers, agents, and other personnel.” They include, Mr. Garland said, “conspiracy theories, dangerous falsehoods, efforts to bully and intimidate career public servants by repeatedly and publicly singling them out, and threats of actual violence.”

Much of this is a standard defense of his department, and any Attorney General might praise the rule of law in similar terms. But on the point about politics and “norms,” Mr. Garland ignores his own role as the first AG to prosecute a former President.

no reference to the law of the land, just norms.

Our norms, are a promise that we will not allow this department to be used as a political weapon. And our norms are a promise that we will not allow this nation to become a country where law enforcement is treated as an apparatus of politics.

He must have got a good laugh writing that.

What a cynical bastard.

Jesse Kelly spent much of his Thursday radio show explaining how he thinks this Garland speech is a signal that the DOJ will start going after FBI/DOJ detractors in the same way they went after "Traditional Catholic Churches", parents who complained about the "transgender" influence in education at school board meetings and people who prayed outside abortion clinics. When Trump is in office let’s apply some of that equal and impartial justice and put this little gremlin in chains and a cell where he belongs.

Garland can blather all the self serving nonsense he can imagine. However history will record that his Department of Justice was in full possession of the Hunter laptop which clearly demonstrated the traiterous corruption of Joe Biden. He did abolutely nothing despite the evidence and harm done to the country. He will be rememered as the most corrupt, colluding Attorney General ever to hold the office.

Jesse Kelly is awesome. He was on the Florida man radio station at 6pm but station recently changed to cha-cha Mexican.

Then he was on 540 am radio locally but that changed to some financial show. Haven’t been able to hear him since.

On the subject of Hitler bastards, this one epitomizes a true Hitlerian. He actually has venom spilling over his bloodless lips.

He wants to be the pioneer of American concentration camps.

President Trump has a herculean task ahead, but with the true right lieutenants, he will get the job done.

It will be a true revolution!

He’s the American “Judge Freisler”. Freisler started out as a Bolshevik, before joining the Nazis.

They make it too easy. Trump should simply say...when I’m elected I’ll make sure my new AG and his department follow the same ‘norms’ Merrick Garland has.
