Merrick Garland and the ‘Norms’ of Justice - Did he think his Trump prosecutions wouldn’t get a furious response?
Wall Street Journal ^ | 12 Sep, 2024 | The Editorial Board

The speech that Attorney General Merrick Garland delivered Thursday at the Justice Department must have been intended to echo throughout the land. After thanking the DOJ’s 115,000 staff for their work to prosecute heinous crimes and hold polluters accountable, he turned to the topic, implicitly, of Donald Trump.

Mr. Garland lauded the ideal of equal and impartial justice, while saying he’s seen in his tenure how DOJ employees have upheld it. “Our norms,” the AG said, “are a promise that we will not allow this department to be used as a political weapon. And our norms are a promise that we will not allow this nation to become a country where law enforcement is treated as an apparatus of politics.”

He went on to denounce “an escalation of attacks on the Justice Department’s career lawyers, agents, and other personnel.” They include, Mr. Garland said, “conspiracy theories, dangerous falsehoods, efforts to bully and intimidate career public servants by repeatedly and publicly singling them out, and threats of actual violence.”

Much of this is a standard defense of his department, and any Attorney General might praise the rule of law in similar terms. But on the point about politics and “norms,” Mr. Garland ignores his own role as the first AG to prosecute a former President.

I notice he gave no details on these alleged “attacks”.

He was referring to criticism. He deserves every bit of criticism and he is threatening those who do it.

Merrick should be advised by the judiciary committees to preserve ALL communications for the last 4 years as it will be subpoenaed on Jan 21, 2025 in an investigation regarding illegal activity and corruption at the justice department under his supervision!

Greg Kelly on NewsMax did his opening statement on Garland’s speech and effectively debunked it but it was jaw droppingly arrogant and propaganda. Basically anyone questioning the Justice Department is an extremist.

The “prosecutors” are the idiots that are now being investigated for their crimes and they are looking for ways to get out of being sent to prison.

Our norms,” the AG said, “are a promise that we will not allow this department to be used as a political weapon. And our norms are a promise that we will not allow this nation to become a country where law enforcement is treated as an apparatus of politics.”

One of most heinous examples of projection I have read in a long time!
